Please introduce yourself and your company:
Hello, my name is Dipesh Morjaria and I am Founder and CEO of Lionstrike Ltd. – we make and sell lightweight leather footballs for children.
What products are you launching at Toy Fair?
I’m launching my best selling range of Lionstrike footballs – size 3 and size 4 footballs in white, yellow and orange. These already sell very well direct to consumer (via Amazon, eBay and website) Take a look at www.lionstrike.net.
How did you get into the toy industry?
The Lionstrike venture got me into the toy industry! I was struggling to find a decent size 3 football for my kids to play in the garden – one that was light enough that they could kick easily – and I couldn’t really find what I was looking for. So I decided to have them manufactured!
What was your favourite toy growing up?
It would be pretty hard to compete with my Atari – spent far too many hours immersed in games such as Space Invaders, Pacman, Pole Position, etc. But Monopoly comes close as it provided some very fond memories of tense competition!
What is the one “special ingredient” that makes a great toy?
It would be really easy to say engagement, but my view is repeat engagement – a toy that you come back to again and again, and it doesn’t lose its spark.
Other than your own, what toy brand really stands out to you today?
I really like the way that Lego has evolved to deliver products that work for older kids (e.g. Technic) and also remain current and cool via licensed products (e.g. Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc.)
What was your best memory of Toy Fair?
I’ll tell you in a few months’ time! I’m hoping to secure some significant orders for my Lionstrike footballs. If I achieve that, then it will be an awesome fair.
What’s your top tip for surviving Toy Fair?
I’ll be monitoring this blog for everyone else’s tips! I’m looking forward to the show and how it can help my business to reach the next levels.
