It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Everyone is getting excited for the festive season here at the BTHA. The tree is (nearly) up and we’re all getting ready for Secret Santa…

Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. Although some people feel a bit glum when they return to work, it’s a different atmosphere in our office as the final countdown to Toy Fair begins. 2018 will be my third show and I’m just as excited for this year as I was for my first.

One of the best bits of Toy Fair is, simply, seeing everything set up. The team and exhibitors completely transform the totally empty (and chilly!) hall at Olympia with all the carpets, lights, and toys. I always like to take a few moments on the first morning before the show kicks off, just to take it all in… it’s so exciting, like the calm before the storm!

When the doors open, the whole event seems to spring into life. The first day is press day, and there’s always a great buzz when the journalists start pouring in. A favourite part of the fair for me has been organising Best New Toys and getting to unveil them to press. I can’t wait to do that again this year with our new showcase, Toy Fair’s Hero Toys!

But as always happens with any event, sometimes things don’t entirely go to plan. Last year I was presenting one of the Best New Toys live on Toy Fair TV, and the product fell apart in my hands. Luckily, we could all have a good laugh about it.

Toy Fair really is the best toy event in the UK and I’m so proud to be part of it. We have such a warm, friendly atmosphere, and I always make a point to meet as many people as possible. It’s always lovely to actually meet those people I’ve been emailing so much in the run-up to the show!

You really never know what you are going to find at Toy Fair – we’ve had some truly whacky and wonderful stunts over the years from our exhibitors. Last year, I tried crickets and meal worms at the Tobar stand… they actually tasted quite nice, if you can believe it!

Toy Fair can be a crazy few days. We are constantly on the go, and your feet certainly do get worn out. You will really appreciate your first good night’s sleep once the show’s over.

With more than 250 exhibiting companies at the show, I’m sure it will be another fantastic and memorable event. I look forward to seeing you in January!
